A Rich History
Founded in 1919 by veterans returning from World War I, the American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veteran service organization. Built on a foundation of service, citizenship, and community, the Legion advocates for veterans’ rights, provides support for military families, and strengthens communities nationwide.
The American Legion played a key role in:
